REDCLIFFE PCYC SOCCER CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

By Joe Parker

October 3, 2006

2006 marked 25 years of soccer being played at Redcliffe PCYC and this fantastic milestone has certainly been celebrated in high style with the best year ever on the field, and probably the greatest level of off field involvement, participation and encouragement. Australia´s world cup successes this year clearly motivated a great level of participation and some extremely promising results.

Off the field, long serving members Terry Webb and Terry Carey were deservedly given Life PCYC Membership for ten years of dedicated service to the Community and Club, and Mark Offer, Craig Kent and John Davies were also recognised for their longstanding efforts and support. Coaches and Managers of all teams were also thanked and congratulated by PCYC Manager Peter Parkes on Presentation Day for their ongoing voluntary support for the Club.

With well over 400 junior and senior players in 2006, comprised of 39 teams from Under 6 to Youths, Mens, Ladies and onto Over 35´s, playing in Brisbane North, QSF and internal over 35 competitions, a concerted combined effort by players, coaches, managers, the Committee and the Management and staff at the Redcliffe PCYC was, as is the case every year, again achieved. In light of the above and of the Club´s extremely successful mixed over 35 winter and summer competition with 6-8 regular teams, the Club is able to cater for players, both male and female, from ages 5 to over 50 to participate in the ´World Game´, which is a great achievement.

The on field triumphs in 2006 were the best results the club has ever achieved and by far the best results in 2006 for any junior club in the District with 2 Premierships, 7 Teams reaching the finals, and 1 Cross River Winner against Rochedale, with the following teams taking the honours:

  • U11 Div 2 team Premiers, Cup Winners & Inter Association Challenge Winners
  • U12 Div 3 team Finalists
  • U13 Div 2 team Champions
  • U13 Div 4 team Champions
  • U14 Div 2 team Champions
  • U17 Div 1 team Grand Final Runners Up
  • Seniors-Ladies Premiers, Finalists

As well as great individual and team performances, and dedication to training these results were of course assisted by hours of tireless dedication by club officials. The Club´s ´fair and equal play policy´ for each player in each team has also been well and truly vindicated. This policy means that all players regardless of individual ability, have an equal opportunity to improve their own and their teams´ skills and performance, and is wonderful encouragement for our young players.

The PCYC stands by such values, and does not endorse or encourage a ´win at all costs´ attitude. The Club´s aim is to encourage all children, to achieve their potential, whatever that may be, and to have fun and keep healthy and fit.

Support for PCYC Football was evident at all final games and also throughout the year with a sea of blue and gold most prevalent at all games.

The success of PCYC Football also carries over to include the ongoing PCYC Indoor Soccer Tournament which commences again in October and which has already attracted record nominations to the point where further team registrations have closed.

Congratulations to all involved what was a remarkable Anniversary Year for the Club. 2007 looks likely to be just as exciting for the club with plans to improve the playing surfaces, complete the planning for and commence construction of changing room and canteen facilities, and generally work with the Council to improve what the PCYC can offer all of its members including the Soccer Club members.

A long term goal to upgrade and improve Talobilla Park will be another exciting development, as are discussions to plan for the construction of an indoor sporting stadium. Sponsorship for the PCYC is always welcomed.
